Privacy policy

Updated 26 October 2026

BeatLamp has no account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and we have no servers that receive anything from the app. Sound and camera images are handled on your iPhone and never saved. To recognise a song and look up its tempo, the app contacts Shazam (Apple) and ReccoBeats.

Who we are

BeatLamp is made by Valueroom Sweden AB in Sweden. We are responsible for the app and for this policy. Questions about privacy go to support@beatlamp.com.

Microphone

BeatLamp listens to the music in the room to find the beat. The sound is analysed on your iPhone while it plays. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere by us.

To recognise which song is playing, the app uses Apple's ShazamKit: the iPhone makes a short audio fingerprint (a signature of a few seconds of music, not a recording) and sends it to Apple's Shazam service, which answers with the song. Apple's privacy policy applies to that.

Song tempo from ReccoBeats

When a song has been recognised (by Shazam, Sonos or the Music app), BeatLamp asks the free ReccoBeats service (api.reccobeats.com) for its tempo. The request contains the song's identifier, such as its ISRC code, and, like any request on the internet, your IP address. Nothing else is sent.

Sonos and the Music app

If you have Sonos speakers, BeatLamp finds them on your home network and reads which song is playing directly from the speaker. This stays on your network. If the Music app is playing, BeatLamp reads the current song from it on the iPhone.

Your lamps and Apple Home

BeatLamp reads and controls your lamps through Apple's Home framework. Lamp names, rooms and settings stay on your iPhone and in your Apple Home. Before a party the app saves each lamp's colour, brightness and white setting on the iPhone, so it can put them back afterwards.

Camera (optional)

The camera is only used if you choose to calibrate. It measures when a lamp's colour visibly changes. The images are analysed on your iPhone as they come in and are never saved or sent.

Purchases

BeatLamp Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details or your Apple ID. The app checks with the App Store which version you have.

On your iPhone

To keep the lamps in time, BeatLamp keeps a technical log on the iPhone (how fast each lamp answers, how the beat was found). It is never sent automatically, is not included in backups, and only the ten latest sessions are kept.

If you share a lamp report from the app, you choose where it goes. Reminders to keep the app open are local notifications on your iPhone.

Information Apple shares with developers

If you have agreed in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can change this in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

Your rights

Since we do not keep any personal data about you, there is normally nothing for us to show, correct or delete. You can still contact us at support@beatlamp.com, and you have the right to complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or the authority where you live.

Changes

If the app starts handling information in a new way, we update this page before the change and write the date at the top.
